I purchased a Lift Master 8500 three years ago. Installed it myself on 10 FT high by 10 FT wide doors. Still working well. Requires at least a foot of space beside the door for installation. Torsion bar spring assists with opening the door. This style of opener depends on the weight of the door to begin the close cycle. Torsion spring must allow the door to close using its own weight. I installed a set of stops/springs on the door rails to give the door a push when the opener begins closing. I particularly like the remote light. It can be installed anywhere you have an outlet.
